How to Apply for the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB)

Starting June 20, 2025, the federal government is opening up applications for the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB). This is a big step forward for accessible financial support in Canada. Once it goes live, you’ll be able to apply online through the government’s portal.

If you’d like me to notify you the moment applications open, I’ve set up a CDB Notification List. Just drop your name and contact info, and I’ll make sure you get the update.

Getting Ready to Apply

If you’ve already been approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), the government will be sending you a letter this June. That letter includes a personalized application code and instructions on how to apply.

To make the process easier, have these ready:

  • Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)

  • Direct deposit details

If you don’t get a letter but believe you’re eligible, don’t worry—you can still apply. You’ll just need to provide:

  • Your mailing address

  • Optionally, your net income (line 23600) from your 2024 notice of assessment. This isn’t required, but it can help speed things up.

How to Submit Your Application

You can submit your application in one of three ways:

  • Online through the application portal

  • By phone

  • In person at any Service Canada location

Have Questions?

If you have questions about the CDB, you can talk directly with Service Canada:

  • Phone: 1-833-486-3007

  • TTY: 1-833-467-2700
