How to Apply for the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB)
Starting June 20, 2025, the federal government is opening up applications for the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB). This is a big step forward for accessible financial support in Canada. Once it goes live, you’ll be able to apply online through the government’s portal.
If you apply by June 30, you’ll receive your first monthly payment on July 18. After that, payments will continue automatically as long as you remain eligible.

Who's eligible?
Be 18 to 64 years old
Be approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC)
Have filed a 2024 income tax return
Meet the benefit’s other eligibility requirements
Getting Ready to Apply
If you’ve already been approved for the Disability Tax Credit (DTC), the government will be sending you a letter this June. That letter includes a personalized application code and instructions on how to apply.
To make the process easier, have these ready:
Your Social Insurance Number (SIN)
Direct deposit details
If you don’t get a letter but believe you’re eligible, don’t worry—you can still apply. You’ll just need to provide:
Your mailing address
Optionally, your net income (line 23600) from your 2024 notice of assessment. This isn’t required, but it can help speed things up.
Important Facts About The Benefit
Up to $200/month (or $2,400/year) depending on your income and your partner’s income
Use the CDB Estimator to get an idea of what you might receive
Back payments may be available for up to 24 months if you don’t apply right away
Apply by the June 30th, 2025 to get your first payment the following month
